World’s first independent deadbeat seconds series wristwatch was introduced in June last year, by Grönefeld Exclusive Timepieces. This complication, also known as secondes morte, has been used in pocket watches since the 19th century. Instead of a sweeping second hand, the second hand advances in full steps of one second. According to Grönefeld Exclusive Timepieces, this was a very respected complication until the 1980s (at the time of Gloria Estefan’s Dr. Beat song, as quoted in the title of this post).

I can imagine that manufacturers of mechanical timepieces did not want to incorporate the deadbeat seconds complication in their watches, to distinguish their watches from quartz watches. This small independent watchmaking company Grönefeld Exclusive Timepieces, located in the east part of The Netherlands, ended this denial of a great complication with their One Hertz time piece.

The in-house G-02 movement is something very special, as the deadbeat seconds complication is very difficult to accomplish without a constant force device. Watchmakers Tim and Bart Grönefeld came up with the idea of a second gear train construction with its own power supply. Friction of the mechanism has to be minimal to guarantee perfect operation of the One Hertz (1 cycle per second) second hand. A separate mainspring for the deadbeat seconds will make sure that friction is kept to an absolute minimum.

Both mainspring barrels are hand wound and will wind simultaneously by operating the crown. As you can see on the picture above, there is an S-W indicator at 3 o’clock. By pushing the crown, the owner of the watch will select either “set” or “wind” and the indicator will switch from S to W or vice-versa. So, no crown-pulling here!

The indicator at the top of the large subdial displaying the deadbeat seconds, is a power reserve indicator. The G-02 movement has a power reserve of 60 hours.

The G-02 movement consists of 254 parts, has two mainspring barrels, a power and set indicator, a Variable Inertia Balance wheel and – of course – the deadbeat seconds complication. A computer aided design drawing of the movement is shown below:

The One Hertz timepiece has a diameter of 43mm and a height of 12.5mm. Both sides of the watch have been fitted with a sapphire crystal, where the top crystal is slightly domed. The Grönefeld logo and watch model are engraved in name plates, which are screwed-down on the dial. This stainless steel watch is limited to 12 pieces only, referring to 1912, the year when Johan Grönefeld (grandfather of Tim and Bart Grönefeld) began his carreer as a watchmaker in Oldenzaal.

The price tag of this stunning timepiece is € 35.105,- (including 19% Dutch VAT).

Besides the One Hertz, Grönefeld Exclusive Timepieces introduced their GMT-06 in 2008. A superb timepiece with a tourbillon and minute repeater complication,rolex explorer II replica, available in gold and platinum. Timepieces by Kees Engelbarts (Cornelius & Cie and his own label), McGonigle, Speake-Marin, Sarpaneva (including S.U.F), Andreas Strehler and of course Grönefeld’s own timepieces, the GMT-06 and their latest, the One Herz.

Update (4/15/2005): From Watch Report reader Victor Shiff, "The 1/1000 timer from TAG Heuer is not the first such watch. Some 12+ years ago (from fallible memory), Casio had several watches with 1/1000 second (1 ms) chronograph functions, cheaper than $1300 too!. There is an unstated problem with these 1 ms chronographs and that is the contact bounce of the button contacts that the watch circuitry has to ignore. This bounce can be from 5 ms to as much as 15 ms and is not necessarily repeatable. What this means to me is the 1 ms is marketing hype."

Thanks, Victor. I noticed shortly after publishing this article that the Seiko Sportura World Time (SNJ005) quietly launched with a millisecond timer. Maybe what TAG meant is that they had the most expensive such watch, or perhaps the coolest looking. I'll give them that.

Say Hi to the Omega Speedmaster X-33. Introduced in 1998, this is one amazing watch. Omega literally flight (and crash) tested it with NASA and military pilots, experimenting with several design iterations before settling on and shipping two commercial versions. It was designed for pilots and space flight, and is rated by NASA for the mission to Mars. Without a doubt, this is one of the coolest and most interesting analog-digital watches ever made.

But of course, something this good just couldn't last. Unfortunately, the X-33 was made unavailable to the general public last year, and now you can only buy them if you work for NASA, or you're in the military. You never actually own a Patek Philippe

You merely look after it for the next generation. With this slogan, Patek Philippe seduces you to take the plunge on one of their magnificent watches. It creates some kind of justification to spend a tremendous amount of money on one time piece that could have bought you half a dozen other Swiss quality watches.

One of my favorites is the Patek Philippe Nautilus (ref.5711/1A) in its purest form: stainless steel and with hours, minutes and date only. However, Patek Philippe also manufacturers the 5712/1A, which is basically the same watch in terms of design or look & feel, but it features a moon phase, date and power reserve indicator. These complications make it the ultimate luxury sports watch.

Although purists may find this dial lay-out way too crowded,swiss rolex replica, it does save them from buying the ‘regular’ 5711/1A model and buy another Patek Philippe with complication to go along with it. To a certain point, I will call myself a purist when it comes to watches, but I would be able to live with the 5712/1A and pass it on to the next generation when time has come.

Henrik over at SubGMT is a Rolex specialist, both new & vintage models. At only very rare moments he has another brand in stock. Today,replica rolex submariner, it is this Patek Philippe 5712/1A he was willing to make an exception for. On his website, he writes Although it is not a Rolex, it is a pretty nice watch. The Patek Philippe Nautilus 5712/1A has a self-winding movement with a 22 carat gold micro rotor. Despite the small diameter of the rotor – see the photo below – the use of 22 carat gold makes sure it has enough mass to do a proper job on winding the movement. The caliber 240 movement is only 31mm in diameter and a height of only 3.98mm, for a complicated movement, that’s stunning.

This particular watch is stamped September 2009 at an authorized Patek Philippe dealer in Germany and is in “like new” condition. The watch comes – of course – with all the proper documentation and warranty papers. The Patek Philippe serial number gives you the right to subscribe to their in-house magazine which covers all topics, from cultural stuff to the latest Patek Philippe watches.

This Nautilus has a diameter of 40mm and water resistant to 60 meters. In fact, this just means that this watch can handle a splash or shower and at least doesn’t let dust gets a chance to get inside the watch case. Don’t even think about going for a swim with this watch, as if it only were to prevent the carefully polished and brushed case and bracelet from scratching.

SubGMT gives this Patek Philippe Nautilus 5712/1A a 19.999 Euro price tag.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Diver Ref.15703

About a week ago, I had the opportunity to give the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Diver (ref.15703ST.OO.A002CA.01) a try. This Offshore Diver was introduced last year (2010) during the SIHH in Geneva and except for its steep list price, I haven’t heard a negative comment yet. In the past,yachtmaster replica, AP already released a few diver (or scuba) watches as part of their Offshore series. One of them was the limited edition for Wempe, restricted to 175 pieces only.

Anyway,luxury replica watch, let’s not look back to the past models for too long and continue with the Offshore Diver 15703ST. Like all other Offshore models, the 15703ST has these typical rubber accents, like the crowns and the thick rubber gasket between the Royal Oak case and the octagonal bezel. Additionally, this Offshore Diver comes with a rubber strap only. Personally I am not too fond of this material in general (had one on a Panerai and have one for an Omega Seamaster Professional Chrono) but AP mastered to get a rubber strap that feels comfortable enough without being too soft. The rubber accents fit the black ‘méga tapisserie‘ dial perfectly and luckily AP didn’t choose to use bright colors this time to spice things up. It is a plain black diver’s watch that could be interpreted as an understatement time piece by AP.

One of the first things that I noticed about this watch is the comfort of wearing it despite the dimensions of 42mm x 13.75mm. My ‘regular’ Royal Oak watches measure 39mm in diameter which might look small for current standards, but these watches tend to wear a bit bigger because of the integrated bracelet and the ‘longer’ lugs. This 42mm Offshore Diver wears even bigger (from lug to lug this watch measures 55mm), but still looks very decent on my wrist.

As you can see on the pictures, the Offshore Diver 15703ST has an extra crown at 10 o’clock. With this extra crown, you can operate the inner (diving) bezel of the watch. The dial is very readable, luminova has been applied to the hour markers and on the baton hands. Furthermore, the dial gives only the information needed: brand name, automatic movement and the level of water resistance. The brand doesn’t need further introduction here at Fratellowatches, as I have written a lot about Audemars Piguet in the past. The automatic movement is AP’s in-house cal.3210 with a power reserve of 60 hours and a very impressive finish. As shown below, the 22ct gold rotor has been engraved with monograms, the bridge and other middle parts are decorated by Côtes de Geneve and the base plate has been fisnihed with a technique call stippling. More about these finishing techniques can be read here.

Although caliber 3120 is a very pretty movement to look at, AP chose to close the hatch by a stainless steel case back instead of a display back. As I had the pleasure of owning a Royal Oak ref.15300 at some point, I experienced the pleasure of looking at this movement once in a while. Perhaps it has something to do with ensuring a water resistance of 300 meters or that AP simply thinks a diver watch shouldn’t come with a display back, but the movement inside the Offshore Diver 15703ST cannot be admired. You just have to come back to this review and look at the picture above once in a while. Anyhows, AP did a nice job on the stainless steel back with an embossed ‘Royal Oak Offshore‘ logo and the large screw heads. Furthermore, the case back shows two numbers.

I have removed the numbers using photo editing software, but these numbers are a unique case number at 12 o’clock starting with a character from the alphabet and a sequential number at 6 o’clock. This particular model starts with an H, and should say something about the production year. However, this information is not disclosed by AP. The other number is the sequential number and is linked to the model reference.

Like all other AP Royal Oak models, this Offshore Diver comes in a very nice looking wooden box with a small compartment in the carton box for the manual and warranty booklet.

To summarize, this Offshore Diver is actually a Royal Oak Offshore model that I could definitely get used to. Although I like the Royal Oak Offshore Safari (reviewed here) and the Offshore Themes models, I always chose for the ‘regular’ Royal Oak models since they are a bit sharper with respect to the edges and beveled parts and don’t use piggy backing movements. I always found (and still do) the Royal Oak Offshore chronograph models a bit too expensive to have a add-on module for the chrono functionality. That just doesn’t feel right in my humble opinion. Luckily, this Offshore has a superb in-house movement inside. In comparison to the non-Offshore models, this Diver 15703ST has somewhat more rounded edges and I have to say that it didn’t bother me at all which probably has to do with the large(r) diameter of the case. If you like and if you don’t have any diving plans for this watch, you can exchange the rubber strap for a nice alligator horn back strap. There are even third parties that create very nice after market straps for these Offshores (and other Royal Oaks), APBands.com for example.

IWC Pilot DLC Project - What Do You Think

Yesterday, I’ve received a number of pictures from people working on a new project, IWC Pilot DLC watches. They customized the IWC Pilot Mark XVI ref.3235 and Pilot Chronograph ref.3717 and give it a slide bit of blue by adding a blue NATO strap and a blue second hand. I personally think they did a nice job on these pilot’s watches and it is refreshing to see some non-Rolex customizations for a change.

As you can see, these IWC Pilot watches are now even more stealth looking as they were before. The technical specifications remain the same as that of their original brothers of course (click here), except for the DLC cases and NATO straps. The small blue hand ‘gimmick’ is a very nice feature imho. Personally,luxury replica watch,swiss replica rolex watch, I would favor the chronograph..

As a former pilot, there are two watches that represent the absolute finest gear for flying: the Omega X-33, and Breitling Aerospace. Both are quartz and analog/digital, and have very different looks. Today's post is about a very similar watch that has a much more reasonable price tag to the Aerospace,breitling fakes, the Victorinox Swiss Army Classic XLS MT. I've not yet confirmed this, but I strongly suspect that it has the exact same movement as the Aerospace, the ETA 988.432, making it one heck of a deal. Specifications of the Victorinox are:

Swiss made, Swiss quartz movement.Anti-reflective-coated sapphire crystal.Stainless steel case, PVD-coated 'gunmetal'. Luminous hands and hour markers.Crown guard.Countdown timer, alarm clock, stopwatch, dual time zone, multiple languages.Water resistant to 100m.45mm by 12m, quite large.

List price is shown as $1,095USD, but I would expect a discount from that. Let's compare to the Breitling Aerospace:

You can kind of see from the pictures that the displays are identical, which makes sense if the movements are the same. You can also see that the Victorinox is larger. 45mm is large but not huge; I'd be happy to wear one.

As with many Swiss brands, Breitling bars selling over the Internet, but Amazon sells them with a list price of $2,watches replica,795.

There are two things I dislike about this movement: the lack of a second hand (useful for 30-second turns), and the crown-driven operation. It's really hard to manipulate while wearing it, which limits the functionality a bit. Nevertheless, I'm hoping that I can try the Victorinox, as that price is much more up my alley, and I really like how it looks.

Fashion Week Fall 2010 Diane Von Furstenberg

In my mind, there are two types of designers: those that make us think about fashion and its relationship to philosophy and art, and those that make fashion accessible and wearable to the average fashion fan. Each pursuit has its own challenges, but it’s without question that Diane Von Furstenberg has the second type of clothing on lock.

Menswear was a dominant theme in DVF’s Fall/Winter 2010 collection, but it was styled in such a way that it would be totally accessible and wearable outside of an office setting. Blazers were layered over floaty chiffon, a girly rose-covered bolero was layered over a suit, and it all looked functional and fun to wear. The textural layering continued with chunky knits over sparkly patterned dresses,high quality watch, and Von Furstenberg threw in a few of her signature wraps for good measure. So what does this collection tell us?

First and foremost, it tells us that DVF is still, and will always be,watches online, a master of print. If I had the cash on hand, I would be the first to line up to buy every patterned party dress in this collection, and there were quite a few of them. They were styled more casually than they might have been in previous collections, but the presentation choice gave potential buyers plenty of ideas about how to get extra mileage out of a fun dress.

Wearability has always been a great part of DVF’s clothing, and this collection continues the tradition. I want almost everything that she presented in my closet now. Yesterday. It’s of-the-moment,rolex 8570f price, richly rendered and will speak to a variety of customers.

Remember the Seiko Sportura SLQ017? It's one of the new limited edition Kinetic Sporturas. Apparently there were only 1,olex 8570f price,500 made,rolexwatch, and only 400 of those were shipped to the US.

Well,wholesale italian leather handbags, if you missed out on the SLQ017, Seiko just announced the new SLQ019. As far as I can tell, it's identical to the SLQ017, but in carbonized titanium, and with orange subdials. In my opinion, the SLQ019 is one tough looking watch. I've seen the SLQ017 in person, and thought at the time that it was probably the coolest of Seiko's Kinetic line, however I think the SLQ019 is even more compelling. It's sort of the Darth Vader of Seiko's Kinetic lineup. It seems to retail for just under $4,000, however Seiko's are typically discounted 20-25%, so I would expect to pay about $3,000. It looks like it comes with a tool for resizing the bracelet, and an interchangeable leather strap, as well. Nice touch.

I've always liked the look of the Tissot Seastar diver, and I like this new model
even more with the addition of a chronograph. There's not a lot of information available

Richard Mille RM 033 Watch

Richard Mille joins the thin watch craze in 2011 with their 6.30mm thick "Extra Flat Automatic" RM 033 watch. For the complexity of a Richard Mille watch case 6.30mm thick is pretty darn good. The brand makes sure to maintain as much of the signature look as possible in the design of the case - and they also made it round. The hour numeral style is not new, but taken from the Richard Mille RM 017 Tourbillon (that actually was finally released this year).

For the RM 033 (RM033), Richard Mille makes the hour numerals bolder, but kept the interesting ellipses shape in the center of the dial. This is about as formal and "elegant" as Richard Mille watch comes these days. I do quite like the dial, but wish the hands were a bit bigger or easier to see. To me, the shape of the hands seems to just go a bit oddly with almost art deco style Roman numerals. The rest of the dial is basically the top part of the movement. Around the numerals are lume dots, and there is more lume on the hands.

I love the size (and width) of the case at 45.70mm. Like I keep saying, the best thin watches are wide watches. The case is light and done in titanium with typical Richard Mille "spline" screws. Like I said, it was an impressive task to retain the iconic Richard Mille case architecture while trying to flatten it. Even the sides of the case have that nice inset look I have come to appreciate the the finely cut titanium on Richard Mille timepieces. In addition to the shown titanium version, the RM 033 will also be available in 18k red gold or 18k white gold.

The movement in the watch is all new. It is the RM033 automatic with a solid platinum micro-rotor. Having a micro-rotor is pretty much a necessity for all thin watches, and platinum is used for the weight, not just for weird bragging rights. While the watch doesn't have a dedicated power reserve indicator, the movement is skeletonized,rolex swiss replica, which includes the mainspring barrel. If you take off the watch, you can see the spring in the barrel and get a gauge on how tightly wound it is. Richard Mille says the movement has a power reserve of 42 hours. The movement itself is just 2.60mm thick - which is quite impressive given all the styling that went into it. The movement is made primarily of titanium with some steel.

While Richard Mille considers the watch to be a "formal piece," it still has a lot of the sportiness we have come to love from the uber-luxury brand. On the wrist the watch feels light and solid - like most of their pieces. While it comes on a rubber strap, people are regularly know to switch out the straps with custom jobs. Richard Mille himself is especially known for this. I wonder what other straps options would look good on this watch? Price for it is rather high... but that is to be expect from Mr. Mille. In titanium the RM 033 is $70,000, $85,000 in red gold, and $90,000 in white gold. So get one right away!

Review of the Nike Amp+ iPod Control Watch

The Nike Amp+ iPod control watch is unusual for many reasons. To start with, it only displays hours and minutes. No seconds,watches 4 u, no date, no alarm, no stopwatch. And to see the time, you actually have to press a button to illuminate the LED display.

But the Amp+ isn't designed to be an all-around running or fitness watch. It's specifically designed for runners who already have the Nike + iPod kit. Similar to the Timex iControl we recently reviewed, the Nike Amp+ is a remote control for your iPod Nano, however unlike the Timex, the Nike Amp+ uses the existing Nike + iPod gadget that plugs into your iPod, so you're actually adding the iPod remote control to the Nike iPod system.

Ok, I know that's a little confusing. Let's slow down and start from the beginning.

You're a runner or walker who wants to track your workouts electronically, and easily control your iPod. After installing a special wireless sensor in your Nike shoes, the Nike + iPod kit let's you use your iPod to:

Track your time, distance, pace, and the number calories you've burned.Choose workouts with specific types of goals, and record your personal bests.Program a "power song" which is selectable from a special menu for when you need some additional motivation.Receive voice feedback about your workout so you don't have to look at your iPod while running.

So now you're using your iPod to listen to music, and to record and track workout information, but the problem is that iPods aren't all that easy to use while running. Imagine needing that power song at the foot of a killer incline, and having to fiddle with the scroll wheel to find it. That's where the Amp+ comes in. With the Nike Amp+ watch, you can:

Start and stop your workout.Change tracks forward or backward.Easily play your power song with the press of a button.Raise or lower your iPod's volume.Check your workout progress.

So now in addition to using your iPod to record and track your workout information, you're using your watch to wirelessly control your iPod. The other advantage of the Nike Amp+ watch is that it's water resistant to 50 meters (about 160 feet) while iPods don't do well with any kind of moisture, so if it's raining outside, your iPod can stay safely tucked away.

As you can see from the included video, the Amp+ actually has a low-resolution array of very bright LEDs hidden beneath a matte rubber surface. The entire watch is actually a band of this rubber that you cut to size using the included measuring tape, it is held together by a nice snap-lock clasp. The Amp+ is extremely light and comfortable, and you don't even notice it on your wrist while running. The swoosh logo is subtle, and the whole thing looks like a wide version of the Livestrong armbands. The Nike Amp+ is a great concept, and it functions quite well, but there are a couple of drawbacks:

You have to press a button to see the time. One of my favorites is the Patek Philippe Nautilus (ref.5711/1A) in its purest form: stainless steel and with hours, minutes and date only. However,vintage rolex watch, Patek Philippe also manufacturers the 5712/1A, which is basically the same watch in terms of design or look & feel,leather handbags on sale, but it features a moon phase, date and power reserve indicator. These complications make it the ultimate luxury sports watch.

Although purists may find this dial lay-out way too crowded, it does save them from buying the ‘regular’ 5711/1A model and buy another Patek Philippe with complication to go along with it. Now that’s the spirit of a well-educated Rolex specialist. Only make exceptions for things that are worth making exceptions for.

Project Runway “At this point, I think we’re designing a gown for the vice president of McDonald

This season of Project Runway feels kind of like the show used to feel before it left Bravo, doesn’t it? It’s a nice feeling – warm, familiar, safe, fabulous. We’ve had three consecutive episodes with both Princess Michael Kors AND Nina Garcia in simultaneous attendance, our designers actually have sewing skills and personalities, and Tim Gunn doesn’t look utterly terrified anymore because the producers have returned him to his natural habitat of New York City.

Another thing that felt oh-so-right about Thursday night’s show was the challenge. Not only was it the customary partner fiasco that we always get in the first few episodes, but it also satisfied the expensive dress/look for less trope that gained favor in the show’s last few season on that OTHER network. Of course, as is customary when creative people are required to work with each other, tempers flared and people got thrown under the proverbial bus. I would accept nothing less.

Our designers were promised the opportunity to “meet” some of the greatest designers of all time, but really what they meant by that was that they were going to go to The Met and look at some historic couture from the museum’s collection. Which is cool, but not exactly “meeting” anyone, and if had been one of the designers, I would have felt slightly bamboozled.

The couture was, of course, fabulous – Balenciaga, Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, the usual suspects. The Cryer said that being so close to it made her want to cry, and no one was surprised. Our group was paired off and charged with making an iconic look that would be deserving of a spot in a museum, which is kind of a lofty goal for a reality show, but, you know, let your little light shine, designers.

Tim picked the team leaders from the magical Bag-o-Choosing, and team leaders then picked their helper/partner from the remaining designers. Jesse, one of only two designers left when it was Ping’s turn to pick, had a very rational concern – that he would be stuck with Ping. Which he was! Ping seems like a nice lady, but holy crap, I’d hate to have to perform goal-oriented tasks with her. I’d probably end up making exactly the same face-punch motion that he made in Mood, if only to stop myself from actually having a rage blackout.

The internet seems to have roundly chided Jesse for his frustration with Ping, but I couldn’t help but be kind of sympathetic. He didn’t choose her, and she should be responsible for articulating her vision, collaborating effectively and doing at least a decent portion of the construction work. She doesn’t get a free pass just because she’s Ping. The real world doesn’t reward you for being a unique and beautiful snowflake, it rewards you for getting things done.

Most of the other pairings fared much, much better. The only other hint of drama was from Mila and whatever nondescript, hipstery- looking guy she was working with. Jonathan? Eh? Yeah,breitling fakes, that was it. He seemed irritated about the amount of construction work that he did, but all of the contestants should know by now that during a partner challenge,the watch store, sometimes you’re going to charge it to the game and get things done. At least Mila had a definitive direction in which they were going to go and was able to articulate it to him, even if he did more sewing. At least he didn’t have to, you know, teach her how to show (Ping, I’m looking at you).

You know what else all of the contestants should know? That when Tim Gunn gives you two days, two designers, and $500 to make an outfit, any outfit, that – GATHER ROUND, DESIGNERS! – a twist is coming. Every pair had to pick one of the other teams’ looks and make it into a “look for less” with only $50 to spend at Mood. The designers basically crapped their pants when this development was announced, but I feel like anyone that has watched this show regularly over the past few seasons saw it coming a MILE away. Don’t the designers Netflix the past seasons before they start filming?

People started panicking a bit, but most everyone kept their cool. Well, most everyone that still had it – Ping and Jesse continued to bicker and Jonathan continued to seethe that Mila wasn’t doing enough grunt work. Anthony and Seth Aaron were having disagreements as well, but their interactions with each other were so positive and friendly that you might not even have noticed it. It was the most civil, cordial partner discord in the history of Project Runway, and Anthony telling Seth Aaron to “not fight in front of company” even cracked up Tim Gunn, who I think wants to shrink Anthony and put him in his pocket for periodic amusement.

Ultimately, the looks were…mostly not terrible. I wasn’t as impressed with this challenge as I had been with the past two, but working with a partner while everyone is trying to fight for camera time is known to create some odd results (unless the team is Christian Siriano and Chris March, then it just creates 100% pure fierceness).

We had a top four instead of top three because of the partnering, and people with Serious Fashion Hair were representin’ for all of us out here with the dyed-black bobs. Maya and Jay made a sculptural, asymmetrical evening dress that didn’t win me over until Nina pointed out that the side without the neckpiece had a deep plunge – brilliant. Also, their “look for less,rolex 8570f,” as Princess Michael Kors so accurately pointed out, blew the $500 original out of the water.

Mila and Jonathan made up the other half of the top four with their proportion-and-volume skewering separates that ultimately won them the challenge (despite their blah babydoll “look for less.”) I’ve read a lot of criticism of their winning outfit, but I think that it fit the challenge really well – they weren’t charged with making a pretty dress (which is exactly what everyone else did, or tried to do), they were supposed to make something iconic, and that’s what they did. The ideas in the design were big and esoteric, and when we look back, the best fashion was almost never easy. Indeed, they may have been the only team that 100% satisfied the requirements.

Now, to the bottom, occupied this week by Seth Aaron, Anthony, Ping and Jesse. Seth Aaron and Anthony tried to do Dior better than Dior, which obviously blew up in their faces, because duh, you can’t do that. I didn’t think that the result was ugly, per se, but it was just really not much of anything. Their “look for less” was equally middling. They backed up each other and stood behind their work on the runway, though, in what might have been the most mature and loyal moment you’ll ever find on reality TV.

In rather stark contrast, we had Ping and Jesse. Don’t shoot me, but I kind of liked the weird, drape-y thing which sprang forth from Ping’s over-active imagination. At the very least, the muted, dark colors were unreasonably beautiful. If she (or Jesse) could have turned the arm-carried draping into something with a bit more structure and purpose, I don’t think they would have been in the bottom. The idea was there, but Ping doesn’t know how to edit her vision into something that works as a sellable item of clothing.

Ping and Anthony were the final two, and Heidi made sure to get in a little imitation of Anthony’s accent before the loser was announced. Between that and how needlessly rude she was to Gordana all of last season, I’m beginning to wonder if Heidi has some really ugly social class issues lurking behind that pretty face of hers. Making fun of someone’s accent is completely uncalled for, particularly when the person doing it doesn’t exactly speak without an accent of her own, although I guess hers is suitably upper class. Anyway, enough Heidi hate. Ping got ousted, because the quirky one never lasts more than a couple of episodes. Also, she got ousted because not only her partner, but also her MODEL threw her under the bus as quickly as humanly possible. Jesse complained that he had to give her sewing lessons and that she didn’t collaborate well (it seemed like neither of them were particularly skilled in that arena), and the model (whose name I don’t know because I don’t watch that stupid model show that Lifetime came up with in order to try to suck out another half an hour of my viewership) complained that Ping never even fitted her in their “look for less.” Which may have been the case, but look, model, no one asked you.

So our beautiful butterfly Ping flitted off into the distance, free to forget her shoes without the judgmental eyes of people that just don’t get her. This show was merely not ready for. Or, maybe, she wasn’t ready for it – either/or.

Time for something completely different. I have been tagged by Alon Ben Joseph who renamed the original game ’8 things you don’t know about me” to “The Blog Game: Tag! Your it!”. I’ll play of course.

The rules are:

So, here are EIGHT random facts about myself:

1. I was born in Enschede (east part of The Netherlands) and I have lived there the first few months of my life, before moving to some other village in the area. Anyway, we lived above one of the band members of Teach In. Teach In won the Eurovision Song Festival in 1975 with the song ‘Ding a Dong’.

2. My middle name is Hendrik. Robert Jan Hendrik Broer. The first three of my names are all separate, however,hublot big bang, I use Robert-Jan (with a dash) as my calling name. My father’s name is Hendrik, my grandfather’s name is Hendrik, my greatgrandfather’s name was.. you get it. However, biggest difference is that I am the first where Hendrik is my Christian name and not part of my ‘first name’. One of my forfathers, also a Hendrik Broer, was a painter in Giethoorn. In the Wikipedia page of Giethoorn, he is marked as a famous citizen of Giethoorn.

3. I love chesterfield chairs. I really do. However, our home is like a copy of the Riviera Maison stores, so it wouldn’t fit. And if it would fit our current interior, my girlfriend wouldn’t let me own one anyway.

4. Probably not a total surprise, but I would love to turn this watch thing into a profession. One can’t live from blogging about watches, so being a watch trader or doing work for auction houses comes to mind. It would be great to do something that you are really passionate about. Although I like my current job as an IT auditor, that can’t be someone’s passion

5. I love schnitzels. Especially those made by restaurant Bulten or those made by myself. Use good meat, enough flower, eggs and breadcrumbs. You can find a good receipe here.

6. Aah, finally. Watches. I am very happy with the ones I own right now and couldn’t imagine I would have this collection when I started about 10 years ago with this hobby/passion. My current dreamwatch is either a Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo 15202 or a Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1. Still in doubt. I changed through the years from liking complicated and/or vintage watches to very ‘simple’ wrist watches. I still like a good moonphase or annual calendar,high quality watch, but nothing beats just three hands and a date window . However, it will take a few years before I can buy one I’m afraid. Or actually not, because what would be next? Perhaps it will be the crown on my collection one day. One should slowly work to that. Another ‘complication’ I do like about watches,rolex 8570f price, is a chronograph. I have my dreamwatch chronograph already, a vintage Speedmaster Professional with the old caliber 321. I don’t think there is a chronograph which has better readability and has a nicer history. Although certainly not the most expensive watch of my collection, I cherish my Speedmaster Pro!

7. Instead of Hendrik, my middlename should be ‘headache’. I have ‘normal’ headaches, but I also have the more seldomly form of headaches called a cluster headache. It’s very painful and comes in periods. My cluster headache periods vary from a year to a year and a half and then it stays with me for several weeks. There is medication, but unfortunately no cure.

8. I currently own a ‘neo-vintage’ BMW 525i (E34) in good condition. I love to drive this car, despite its age. It is packed with features and everything still works fine. Actually, not a single squeek when I drive it. Let’s see how a 2 year old Renault of Alfa is handling . Anyway, despite the fact that my heart goes out to BMW and that my next car probably will be a newer 5-series (E39) with an automatic gearbox and leather interior, my ultimate car would be a Mercedes Benz Gullwing SL300.

And that’s the end of my 8 randomly picked facts. The next eight people I would like to tag are:

6. ‘Explorer Johan’ – Long time friend and since almost a year, finally owner of a nice time piece. He used to have a blog, but it died. Perhaps a reason to bring it back to life?

7. Velociphile – Velociphile has one of the best blogs on watches. Period.

8. Roger Ruegger – He has a great website on diver’s watches and runs a blog as well! Excellent place to start your diving watch experience.

Starting on the 19th of January, the annual SIHH is being held in Geneva. The SIHH, Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie, represents a number of fine watch manufacturers like Audemars Piguet, Officine Panerai, Jaeger LeCoultre, Vacheron Constantin and a few more. One of them is Cartier. Cartier once started out as a jeweler and in the 1900s, it was one of the first to create a wrist watch. I think everyone knows (or should know) the Santos-Dumont story.

Anyway, I didn’t classify Cartier as being a haute horlogerie brand for a long time. I just recently became interested in the brand,rolexwatch, after talking to Treo. Treo is the owner of a dedicated Cartier website called Troisanneaux. After talking to him, I ordered the book ‘Cartier – The Tank Watch‘. This watch is to me,knock off watches, the classic rectangular wrist watch.

One of the more recent Cartier models is the Ballon Bleu watch. I was actually quite stunned by this model and I still don’t know if it’s a gents or ladies watch. With 42mm, I assume it is the first one. However, and this goes for most Cartier watches, there is an ETA movement ticking inside. Although I think that these ETA movements have proven themselves over time and can be qualified as reliable and sturdy movement,rolex replica, it bugs me a little bit that these expensive Cartier watches have an ETA movement inside. Perhaps I am still one of the few who is bothered by paying more than x Euro for an ETA driven wristwatch and is it becoming silly, I don’t know . What I do know, is that the design of these Cartier watches, the finish of the dials and the beautiful (and typical) crown are compensating for this.

The design of Cartier watches is almost indisputable. Wonderful created cases, most of the time in precious metals like white gold. Guilloche dials with stunning designs. These watches are like art . But given the fact that movementwise, these watches are hardly any special, would you buy one just for the superb design? If the price is right, I probably will add a Cartier Santos Galbee in my collection in the (far) future. It is the classic rectangular watch imho.

What has Lifetime done with Nina Garcia and Michael Kors, and who are these people that are sitting in their chairs?!?! Do we as viewers need to come up with a ransom to get them back? Do we need to pass around the collection plate?

Anyway. You know how, in every other episode of Project Runway for the past five seasons, someone gets dinged for being “too costume-y?” Well, they’ wholesale designer handbags ve now completely given up and decided to let the designers just make actual costumes. For movies, because they film in Los Angeles now,louis vuitton wallet, remember? REMEMBER? Because they can’t stop talking about it, and I wish they would.

Despite my irritation, this wasn’t a bad challenge. It was particularly interesting because genres were assigned instead of everyone just getting to pick, which meant that not everyone could do “Old Hollywood Glamour” (cheap designer wholesale handbags and, interestingly, several of the people that got the chance to do it totally crapped the bed, so to speak). But it wasn’t one of those people that got sent home – no, no, it was someone that actually had a bit of potential.

So the designers and Tim met up with Mister Clean…er, uh, I mean Collier Strong…at a Hollywood backlot and out came the Velvet Bag o’ Choices. Designers were chosen randomly to pick their genre – sci fi, action/adventure, film noir, period piece, and Western were the choices. No one wanted Western, obviously, but Epperson and Shirin ended up with it because they were chosen last. Logan and Carol Hannah took action/adventure, Ra’mon and Nicolas (who looks like a giant pile of mashed potatoes) chose sci fi, Christopher and Gordana took period piece, and Irina and Althea took film noir.

We’re at that magic point in the season where no one totally sucks anymore. Well, that’s a lie. Nicolas sucks on a variety of levels: as a designer, as a human being,lv handbag, as a chooser of haircuts. But most everyone else is capable of winning a challenge on any given day, and that’s when things really get interesting. The wheat has been separated from the chaff, personalities start clashing, brilliant things start showing up on the runway. And we saw some brilliant things on Thursday night! Too bad none of them won.

The top three were Christopher’s Victorian vampire bride, Epperson’s frontier woman, and Nicolas’s ice queen. Cue the song: One of these things is not like the others, one of these things just don’t belong…. And it’s Nicolas’s. Annoying, lumpy, smack-talking Nicolas. His ice queen was ice queen-y, sure! In much the same way that Ra’mon’s reptile alien was alien-y, but more on that later.

It was shiny and white and looked much the same as his Tranny Sea Hooker outfit did from a couple episodes back that he almost lost for, but with more shininess and makeup, and he didn’t almost lose for this one. In fact, he won, which was almost enough for my brain to liquefy and leak out of my ears in a mind-melting combination of rage and despair. For you see, dear readers, the winner gets immunity. Potato Face is here for at least another two episodes. Gag me with a spoon. Why is it always the ones with the least talent that can’t shut their mouths about everyone else?

I would have been happy with either Epperson or Christopher winning – they both put a great deal of thought into their stories and garments, and they were far more complicated and intricate than the shiny, white spandex that Nicolas created. There were ruffles and bustles and belts, oh my! But they didn’t use makeup as much as Potato Face did, and remember Mister Clean from the beginning of the episode? He wants his moment in the makeup sun!

Which leaves us, of course, with the bottom three. Ra’mon, Gordana, and Louise. Gordana made a perfectly acceptable flapper dress, which was the problem – it was perfectly acceptable. She’s a talented tailor, but I’m beginning to doubt her ability to design. Project Runway requires a sense of flourish – the vision to know that the judges want you to drip liquid sugar down your model’s hair in order to win the challenge. She’d never attempt a bustle, and maybe not even a ball gown,louis vuitton handbag, and that’s not going to win her the competition. But it didn’t lose her the challenge.

It was down to Ra’mon and Louise in the end. Ra’mon had designed an alien costume for a movie that had a bit of a porn-y plot, and the judges thought it was too B-movie. Louise had chosen film noir, which you would think would play to her aesthetic, but she made a totally uninspired black dress without a definitive era and very little storyline behind it. And when you’re supposed to make something over-the-top, why make a black dress with a limp little belt?

But she didn’t go home, Ra’mon did, which I don’t entirely agree with. Sure, his costume was a little silly, but if there’s a genre that embraces the B-movie look, it’s sci fi. The classic costumes in that genre are all a little campy and odd, and his little reptilian cocktail number probably wasn’t the best he could have done, but it was appropriate for the genre and had a story behind it that fit the garment. Louise, on the other hand, had the rich source material of film noir and the advantage of picking a genre that already fit her aesthetic, and she crapped the proverbial bed.

I like Louise, but we aren’t in the part of the season where being pleasantly safe is going to keep anyone safe anymore. Just ask Gordana! Ra’mon was kind of raw and unfocused, but he had talent and a good bit of chutzpah, and he was far more intriguing than Louise. I hope she does something in the coming weeks to deserve her salvation.

And guess what we have next week – a partner challenge! Oh, goody. These are always the ones with the best fights, and if the color of Gordana’s hands in the preview are any indication, they’re going to be dying their own fabrics. And if Gordana’s face in the preview is any indication, she might dunk Stank Face Irina into a tub of it, head first. And hold her down.

Along with the arrival of fall comes a more practical attitude to dressing. Gone are the easy breezy casual days of summer when I could simply throw on a sundress and sandals. With the arrival of Autumn comes back-to-school, crisp cool weather and a more hectic schedule.

Now that my daughter is in pre-school I find I have to carry many more items while we rush out the door in the morning. I need a practical stylish tote with plenty of room for snacks; hand wipes and sippy cups. A chic and roomy brown leather tote will perfectly match my chunky cashmere sweaters and Burberry trench.
